David Fraser is the current Sergeant-At-Arms and Director of Security of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. He was appointed to the position on January 1st, 2016, by The Speaker.
Before assuming the Sergeant-at-Arms role, Mr. Fraser had a distinguished 35-year career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
From 1981 to 2016, he performed many duties within the RCMP until his retirement as NCO i/c Protective Services for “H” Division (Nova Scotia). In this role, Mr. Fraser oversaw the coordination of security for visits of Her Majesty The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, the Prime Minister, Governor General, Federal Ministers, Supreme Court Justices, foreign dignitaries and the Premier of Nova Scotia.
Over the course of his policing career, Mr. Fraser performed provincial and federal enforcement duties, been a member of the Emergency Response Team (Toronto) and was extensively detailed to protective operations. He also served as a Security Liaison Officer to the Canadian Olympic Team for both the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India (2010) and the Olympics in Sochi, Russia (2014).
Mr. Fraser has a Masters’ Degree in Terrorism, Risk and Security Studies from Simon Fraser University.
He is also the recipient of both the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond and Platinum Jubilee Medals, the King Charles III Coronation Medal, the RCMP Long Service Medal with Gold Clasp and the Nova Scotia Police Long Service Medal.
