The Association was formally incorporated on April 29, 2010.
Our Membership
The Association’s membership consists of all the Sergeants-at-Arms, whether permanent or part-time, of all the Canadian provinces, the Parliaments of Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, and the Canadian House of Commons, and includes the Usher of the Black Rod (Senate of Canada).
The Association has met annually since August of 1981. Further to these meetings, the objects of the Association, listed below, are achieved through regular discussion and communication between members.
The objectives of the Association are:
- To serve as a vehicle for its members to meet and discuss matters pertaining to their unique and vital role in parliamentary democracy;
- To promote knowledge of both traditional and contemporary roles of a Sergeant-at-Arms;
- To serve as a vehicle for its members to exchange best business practices in their roles as Sergeant-at-Arms, including, but not limited to, both ceremonial and security related duties; and
- To foster a working relationship among Canadian Sergeants-at-Arms and Sergeants-at-Arms in other Commonwealth jurisdictions.
